Alasdair McDonnell had a two page spread in Monday’s Irish News. Although the Irish News is still pretty friendly to the Stoops, it isn’t quite the SDLP house journal it once was and a double page spread on a quiet news day is as good as it gets in terms of free publicity for the leader of a medium sized party. Involves having no career despite spectacular education, a penchant for odd little things like modernist poetry or German Baroque statues, can patronisingly look down on the plebs but is often left-of-centre in a peculiarly conservative sort of way. Ian Paisley Jnr. (ironically, now a junior minister in the Department that looks after equality issues in Northern Ireland) has caused outrage by saying in an interview with Hotpress magazine that he was 'repulsed' by homosexuality.

Stonewall is predictably outraged, but it's all OK with me. I'm repulsed by Baby Doc, so that's us even!
